FREE BARCODE STOCKTAKING
Scan the shelf. Get a count you can use.
Count stock by location with the keyboard barcode scanner you already have. CountBench keeps each location separate, handles repeated items properly and gives you a results file for your stock system.
Free to use. No account, email address or trial. Works offline once prepared.

MADE FOR THE FLOORFor stores supervisors and operators counting factory stores, spare parts or packing supplies with a USB or Bluetooth scanner.
A USEFUL STARTING POINT
A scanner is only as useful as what it records
A stocktake goes wrong in small ways: a scan lands in the wrong location, an item is scanned twice, or a shelf nobody counted looks like zero. CountBench keeps the current location and counting mode on screen, keeps zero separate from not counted, and pauses capture whenever the screen loses focus.
FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE
Three steps to a useful result.
- 01
Set the location
Scan or type the location before counting it. A barcode never changes location by itself: scanning a location is a separate, deliberate action, and the location stays on screen while you count.
- 02
Count each item
Choose Enter total to scan an item and type how many are there, or Scan each unit to add one for every scan. The total, the last item and the location stay large on screen.
- 03
Review and download
Check counted items, explicit zeroes and anything unrecognised, then download results as CSV for your stock system or XLSX for a spreadsheet.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLEEnter total sets the number. It never adds to it.
An operator scans item 000017 at location A-03 and enters 240. If 236 is later entered for the same item and location, CountBench asks for confirmation and a reason, then records 236 as the total, not 476. Both entries stay in the count's history.
USED IN PRODUCTION
From a careful count to a stocked line.
CountBench checks what is on the shelf at a point in time. Two SmartFACT services handle work that repeats every day: refilling production locations from stores, and checking what goes into each kit. Both are in early access, with scope agreed at onboarding.
RefillFlow
Keeping the line stocked between counts is a different job. Scan an empty container and RefillFlow sends the right refill request to stores, prints the ticket there and tracks it to delivery. Approved plain English rules set the stores queue, priority and escalation.
KitProof
When parts go out as kits, KitProof turns approved plain English component rules into each kit's expected parts and quantities, then checks every scan against that plan before the kit leaves the bench.
BEFORE YOU START
A few practical answers.
Which scanners work?
Any USB or Bluetooth scanner that types like a keyboard. Set it to send Enter after each scan, or choose Tab in CountBench and run the short device check. If a scan looks wrong, ScannerBench shows exactly what your scanner sends. Camera scanning, RFID and scanner apps are not supported.
Do I need to import a product list first?
No. A quick count records the exact codes you scan, with a unit you choose. Import a catalogue when you want each scan matched to a known item, with unknown codes sent to review instead of counted.
Can I count without a scanner?
Yes. Type or paste item codes and quantities, with the same checks as a scan. The whole workflow runs on a laptop or tablet with no scanner, printer or login.
What are the current limits?
CountBench records whole-number counts of what is physically present. It is not a stock system: there are no live stock levels, adjustments, valuation, purchasing, lot, serial or expiry tracking, and nothing is written back to your ERP. One person controls a count at a time, on one device. Imports are UTF-8 CSV up to 5 MiB, with up to 10,000 catalogue items, 10,000 expected rows and 500 locations per count. Camera scanning, RFID, scales and scanner apps are not supported.
What happens to my data?
Your count stays in this browser. Save on this device keeps it between visits; a temporary session keeps it only while the tab is open. Nothing is uploaded unless you choose Email me these results, which sends only the files you select and deletes them after sending. No account or contact details are needed to count or download. Google Analytics is optional and loads only after you accept; it never receives codes, quantities, locations or file contents. Use Analytics settings to change your choice; see /privacy/.
